Stay Green with Us
At Leeuwenzee, we believe great hospitality goes hand in hand with caring for the planet and that Comfort can meet Conscious Living!
Our 18-room guesthouse, offering both bed & breakfast and self-catering stays, have proudly been taking steps to be more sustainable every day since re-opening after Covid.
This is how we are doing our part:
🌞 Powered by the Sun
We’ve installed solar panels to reduce our reliance on the grid and ensure cleaner, greener energy — even during load-shedding. LED lighting and energy-efficient appliances are standard throughout. Double-glazed windows also help improve insulation.
To further reduce energy use, we’ve installed two eco-friendly heat pumps and use an advanced electronic management system that automatically regulates geyser temperatures and switches off air conditioners in unoccupied rooms.
💧 Saving Water, Together
Our bathrooms have been completely upgraded with low-flow showerheads and dual-flush toilets.
While space limitations prevent us from installing a rainwater harvesting system, we’re committed to using water responsibly:
-
Daily checks are done for leaks.
-
Towels and linen are refreshed every 3 days, or upon request.
-
Traditional toweling mats have been replaced with Diatomaceous Earth Stone Mats — hygienic, quick-drying, and water-efficient.
♻️ Less Waste, More Impact
We sort and recycle all glass, cardboard, paper, tin, plastic, metal, and electronics on site.
Kitchen waste is treated with Bokashi and composted with the help of our very own composting worms!
We’ve swapped plastic keys and card systems for digital keypad locks, and replaced miniature plastic bathroom amenities with stylish, refillable containers reducing plastic use across the property.
🌿 Locally Sourced – Consciously Chosen
From breakfast ingredients and guest amenities to décor, we source as much as possible from local farmers, artisans, and small businesses. Supporting local helps reduce transport emissions and keeps our community thriving.
We’re not stopping here.
Sustainability is a journey and our 2026 goal is to achieve official eco-certification in sustainable tourism and hospitality. Because caring for our guests also means caring for the world we all share.
